Meet the Canonical Ceph team at Cephalocon 2023

Date: April 16-18th, 2023

Location: Amsterdam, Netherlands

In just a few weeks, Cephalocon will be held at the Pakhuis de Zwijger cultural centre in Amsterdam.  After a pandemic induced hiatus, this will be the first major gathering of Ceph developers and users in almost 4 years!

Canonical Ubuntu is proud to be sponsoring the event. Among the attendees, you will be able to meet the Canonical Ceph team, and discuss the benefits of using Canonical Ceph for your storage needs, across private cloud, edge, or cloud-adjacent settings.  Our team is keen to talk about our recent work enabling a multitude of deployment options using Charms, Snaps and Container images (OCIs).

Canonical led talks

The Enterprise Ceph Spectrum

Canonical Product Manager Phil Williams will deliver a lightning talk discussing the wide variety of Ceph deployments, from large scale data centre application centric modalities, containerised approaches, edge scenarios, and beyond.  Join Phil Williams to hear more about them, why they exist, and what the Canonical team has been doing to enable them in the enterprise.  Monday 17 April at 12:10 CEST.

MicroCeph: What, Why and Who is it for?

Canonical Software Engineers Peter Sabaini and Utkarsh Bhatt will introduce the MicroCeph snap, and discuss the motivation behind its development on Monday 17 April  at 11:25 CEST.  Microceph has an emphasis on ease of use, a low barrier to entry into the Ceph ecosystem, and easy scale-up. It’s ideal  for testing, setting up home labs and edge clusters, or for training purposes.

Ceph, TCMalloc, and the Linux kernel

Sustaining Software Engineer Dan Hill  will be delivering a technical presentation, exploring the root cause analysis of transient checksum errors and covering interactions between Ceph, TCMalloc and the Linux Kernel, on Monday 17 April at 12:10 CEST.

Using EBPF to Develop a Powerful Tool for Diagnosing Ceph Performance Issues

Sustaining Software Engineer Dongdong Tao will present his work with eBPF on Monday 17 April at 14:35 CEST.  eBPF is a revolutionary technology rooted in the Linux kernel, that implements a sandbox inside the kernel. In his talk, Dongdong will demonstrate an eBPF-based tool that allows us to see the life cycle of any client request, and capture the latency at each stage of the request.

Meet with us at Cephalocon

What is changing in the storage industry? How can open-source Ceph play a role in the modern data centre? And, how can Canonical meet your objectives?

Scaling and complexity are the most significant challenges faced by any storage administrator or architect.  Open-source scale out storage technology like Ceph presents the opportunity to break free from proprietary systems and vendor lock in.

If you are interested in how open-source Ceph can be used to deliver reliable and scalable storage our team will be happy to demonstrate our software and share our insights.
