6 February 2023 – Canonical, the publisher of Ubuntu, announced today that it doubled revenue for its Channel/Reseller Program in 2022, grew its active reseller base by more than 50%, and grew the overall channel business by 70%.
Canonical is an industry leader in open source private clouds, the reference platform for all major public clouds. The Ubuntu operating system is the most widely used Linux distribution that runs on the desktop, workstations, and all internet connected things.
The company has pivoted from being a brand for developers to a brand for enterprise business, as demonstrated by its shift from supporting primary Ubuntu community projects to now patching and securing an ever growing set of open source applications through its new Ubuntu Pro
Canonical works with many distributors, resellers, and partners around the world to ensure that its offerings are available to its customers. Partners can resell support services and value-added offerings around Canonical technology, enabling them to grow their business.
Long standing partners from the channel include CDW, Climb, and SHI; OEMs such as Dell Technologies, HPE, and IBM; and global System Integrators, including Infosys and TCS. Lenovo, NHN, MIS, Sitael, TechMahindra, and VMware are among the numerous new partners added in 2022 who are helping their customers find effective alternatives to mainstream solutions in the private and hybrid cloud. New partner momentum was strong in the Americas and in Europe, and especially strong in Southeast Asia.
Key vertical growth for 2022 included retail, telco, automotive, and finance. Canonical also saw growth for IoT and devices given its Linux-based solutions power a vast majority of architectures and platforms not offered by other vendors. As a result, Ubuntu is now the technology for McDonald’s kiosks across the United States, for new 5G core networks in Asia, and is the safety linux of choice for Continental to power the software defined vehicles of tomorrow. Canonical has also become the cloud platform of large financial institutions, such as Jackson National.
CRN, a brand of The Channel Company, today named Regis Paquette, VP Global Alliances and Channels, to its 2023 Channel Chiefs list. This is Regis’ third time appearing on the list. This list identifies top IT channel vendor executives who have helped their solution provider partners and customers navigate an increasingly complex landscape of interconnected challenges and shifting industry dynamics with innovative strategies, programs, and partnerships.
“I am honored to once again be included among CRN’s list of leading Channel Chiefs. Our partnerships are everything,” said Regis Paquette, Vice President Global Alliances and Channels at Canonical. “We have built out an amazing global team to address endless opportunities with distributors and VARs around the world. I look forward to continued channel and reseller program growth, and supporting our partners with additional tools for success, including new enablement resources.”
“Once again, this year’s list gives well-deserved recognition to the IT Channel Chiefs who are dedicated to driving the channel agenda and advocating for the development of strong channel partnerships,” said Blaine Raddon, CEO of The Channel Company. “Under their exceptional leadership, influence, and innovation, the IT channel vendor community continues to deliver solutions and services that meet the rapidly evolving needs of their solution provider partners and their customers.”
